Scindia Unveils 25-Foot Shivaji Maharaj Statue in Karnataka

Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia on Sunday unveiled a grand 25-foot statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Athani town of Belagavi district, Karnataka. Describing the event as historic, the Minister said the unveiling symbolised India’s enduring values of self-respect, courage and the spirit of Hindavi Swaraj.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Scindia said the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj continues to inspire fearlessness, national duty and pride among Indians. He highlighted Shivaji Maharaj’s vision, strategic brilliance and leadership, recalling that the region of Belagavi and Athani held strategic importance during his campaigns in South India.

The Union Minister said that as India moves forward on the path of self-reliance and cultural renaissance, the ideals of Shivaji Maharaj remain deeply relevant. He added that the statue would inspire future generations with the message that national interest, courage and the spirit of Swaraj are timeless.

The ceremony was attended by religious leaders, Karnataka ministers, former deputy chief minister Laxman Savadi, Kolhapur MP Shrimant Shahu Chhatrapati Maharaj and other distinguished dignitaries.

Shri Scindia was on a two-day visit to Maharashtra and Karnataka, during which he also released a commemorative postage stamp marking 150 years of the Bombay Gymkhana in Kolhapur and interacted with Gramin Dak Sevaks.
