Belagavi: Legislative Council Chairperson Basavaraj Horatti announced that the upcoming winter session in Belagavi, beginning on December 9, will focus on the development of the Kittur Karnataka region. He urged council members to engage in constructive discussions to address the region’s pressing issues.

Focus on Key Issues During the Session
Horatti highlighted that discussions on Mahadayi, farmers’ challenges, and sugarcane growers’ concerns will take center stage on Tuesday and Wednesday. After the question hour on these days, members will deliberate on the development of the Kittur Karnataka region. He emphasized the need for impactful debates to propose effective solutions for the region’s long-term growth.
Addressing Significant Questions
A total of 1,397 questions were submitted for the session. These include 150 bullet questions and 81 attention-grabbing ones, ensuring a wide range of topics for discussion. The council aims to address these questions systematically to ensure comprehensive coverage of important issues.
Initiatives on Child Protection and MLA Engagement
The council is taking proactive steps to promote child protection and uphold children’s rights. Horatti mentioned the formation of a forum for council members to address these concerns effectively. Leaders are also working to improve MLA attendance by implementing measures to ensure active participation throughout the session.
Budget Allocation and Infrastructure Plans
The government has allocated ₹20 crore for the winter session. Proposals to build accommodations for MLAs are under consideration, with inputs from reputed organizations such as Taj Group and KLES. Horatti stated that discussions with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will finalize the decisions on these proposals.

Several prominent officials attended the briefing, including Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan, Legislative Council Secretary KR Mahalakshmi, Police Commissioner Iada Martin Marbaniang, Superintendent of Police Dr. Bhimashankar Guled, and ZP Chief Executive Officer Rahul Shinde. Their involvement underscores the importance of the session for the region’s development.
