A 25-year-old female was relieved of severe headache and multiple episodes of vomiting after a team of Neurosurgeons from KLES Dr Prabhakar Kore Hospital and medical research Center, Belgaum, successfully operated on a deep-seated brain tumor entirely with the neuro endoscope. She was successfully relieved of severe headache post-surgery and proved to have a low-grade tumor.
The young female was diagnosed with a deep-seated brain tumor that was causing blockage to the ventricular system. This condition proved to be very challenging for the surgeons since the tumor was nearly close to the Brain’s Centre, and hence the margin of error was shallow due to the tumor location.
The surgery was done entirely through a single keyhole with the newly provided Neuro-endoscopic system for the first time in this hospital. It’s a boon to the neurosurgeons and the patients to have a neuro endoscope, among other vital technologies like neuro-navigation provided by the KLE’s Dr Prabhakar Kore hospital.
“Use of neuro-endoscope in these deep, critical areas of the brain is beneficial. It provides a full view of the tumor through a narrow brain window, causing very minimal brain injury. This benefits the patients having brain tumors, said the neurosurgery team consisting of
Dr Vikram T.P, Dr Prakash Rathod, Dr Abhishek Patil and Neuro anaesthetist Dr Teena Desai.
