On Friday, officials gathered near Hanuman Nagar for a live demonstration of the robotic systems. Mayor Mangesh Pawar, Deputy Mayor Vani Vilas Joshi, ruling party leader Hanumant Kongali, and Deputy Commissioner Laxmi Nippanikar attended the event along with other senior officers.
AI-Powered Sewer Bots Impress Officials
Developed by Swasth AI, a start-up incubated at IIT Madras, these robots feature advanced technology from Solinas Integrity Systems and Endobot Sewer Bots. Each bot uses high-resolution cameras and sensors to detect drainage issues such as blockages, leaks, and water contamination.
Moreover, they provide live video feeds from inside the pipelines, allowing early fault detection before any major damage occurs. According to company representative M.R. Patil, these robots have already performed well in Sangli, Maharashtra.
Training, Cost, and Implementation Plans
Each robotic unit costs around ₹27 lakh. To support implementation, the company will provide one-month free training to civic staff. Furthermore, the corporation is considering a ₹5.5 crore service contract that covers operations and maintenance for three years.
Mayor Pawar emphasized that these machines will support civic workers rather than replace them. “We’re impressed with the demo. We will make a final decision after consulting stakeholders,” he said.
Deputy Mayor Joshi added that the corporation will move forward based on actual necessity and the machine’s performance.
