The victims — Akash Kaganikar, Omkar Lokhande and Sanskar Lokhande — were promised lucrative data-entry jobs in Hong Kong with a monthly salary of ₹1 lakh by a local agent in Belagavi. However, after leaving India, they were diverted to Cambodia, where they were allegedly held captive and forced to carry out cyber fraud targeting Indian citizens through social media platforms such as WhatsApp and Instagram.

Police said the youths were subjected to physical assault and threats when they refused to participate in illegal activities. Following a complaint lodged by the victims’ parents at the Belagavi CEN police station, city police commissioner Bhushan Borase coordinated with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Cambodia.

Based on the information shared, Cambodian law enforcement agencies conducted a raid on the cyber fraud operation, uncovering a large racket involving around 50 youths from India and other countries.

“All three youths were brought back safely to India a couple of days ago,” police said.

Further investigation revealed that the fake job racket was being operated by three individuals based in Belagavi. A special police team tracked down the accused and arrested all three. Police said the sustained efforts of inspector J.M. Kalimirchi and his team played a key role in rescuing the victims and cracking the case.
