Belagavi city is facing severe traffic congestion and accommodation shortages due to the ongoing winter session of the Karnataka Legislature. With ministers, MLAs, MLCs and senior officials arriving in large numbers, the entire state administration has effectively shifted to the city.

Around 10,000 government staff have been deployed for the session, with arrangements made for their transport, lodging and food. Daily meetings and official programmes across the city have led to heavy vehicular movement, causing traffic snarls on major roads.

The long-standing demand to construct an MLAs’ hostel within the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha campus remains unfulfilled. As a result, legislators are staying in hotels and guest houses across the city, worsening traffic, parking issues and accommodation shortages.
Residents complain that VIP convoys, especially those of the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and ministers, lead to frequent road closures, disrupting daily commutes. Hotel rooms in the city are fully booked due to the legislature session coinciding with the wedding and holiday season, forcing many people to postpone events or search for accommodation elsewhere.
