Belagavi, March 5: PWD Minister and Belagavi District In-charge Minister Satish Jarkiholi said that MLAs from Belagavi district have appealed to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to divide the district into smaller districts for administrative convenience.

Speaking to reporters in Chikkodi after hearing public grievances, Jarkiholi said the demand for a separate Chikkodi district has been pending for decades. He added that during the winter session of the Assembly held in Belagavi, MLAs from the district met the Chief Minister and requested the creation of smaller districts. The final decision now rests with the State Government, he said.
The minister also stated that water release from the Hidkal dam to the Chikkodi sub-canal has been extended till March 12, following requests from farmers to support the rabi crop.
Earlier, Jarkiholi inspected the progress of bridge construction works in Lolsur and Ghataprabha and later visited the Morarji Desai Residential School in Ghataprabha, where he reviewed facilities and interacted with students.
