Vani Vilas Joshi, corporator of Ward 43 and former deputy mayor of the Belagavi City Corporation (BCC), has written to BCC Commissioner Karthik M highlighting safety risks at the site. She pointed to a recent soil collapse incident that reportedly left one person injured, stating that the situation cannot be treated as a routine construction issue.
In her complaint, Joshi alleged that the excavation is being carried out without essential safety measures such as retaining walls, shoring, slope protection, proper barricading, and supervision by qualified civil and structural engineers, despite residential buildings being located close to the excavation pit.

She has also sought a detailed probe into the project’s approvals, including the building licence, plan sanction, and clearance from the Town Planning Office (TPO). According to her, the proposal was initially rejected, raising questions about how it later received approval.
Joshi has urged the commissioner to immediately deploy senior BCC officials, TPO staff, and technical experts to inspect the site and initiate a comprehensive investigation to ensure compliance and public safety.
