Advanced technology helps police reunite missing individuals with their families across multiple states
Belagavi, June 19: Belagavi Police have successfully traced 12 missing persons and reunited them with their families by using advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), facial recognition software, digital forensics, and social media tracking.

According to police officials, several of the individuals had been missing for years. Dedicated police teams tracked them across different states, including Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Goa. Some were located in Sangli, Raigad, and Beed districts of Maharashtra, while others were found in Anand district of Gujarat and various locations in Karnataka, including Bengaluru, Vijayapura, and Bagalkot.
To identify and locate missing persons, investigators used facial recognition technology to compare photographs with available databases and CCTV footage. An AI-powered age-progression tool was also used to generate updated images, helping officers match old photographs with current appearances.
Police further analyzed social media activity, mobile phone records, signal triangulation data, email usage, digital transactions, and location-based information to establish movement patterns and identify possible whereabouts.
A senior police officer said that technological tools are used alongside traditional investigation methods. Once a missing person’s location is confirmed, officers coordinate with local police in the respective area to verify their identity and facilitate legal procedures before reuniting them with their families.
The operation was supervised by Superintendent of Police K. Ramarajan and Additional Superintendent of Police R.B. Basaragi. The investigation team included Women’s Police Station Inspector Netravati B. Patil and technical staff members Sachin Patil and Vinod Thakkannavar.
The successful operation highlights how modern technology is enhancing missing persons investigations and helping families reconnect with their loved ones.
