Belagavi: Urban Development Minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah on Tuesday said the Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) would be directed to pass a resolution declaring Belagavi an integral part of Karnataka, addressing a long-standing demand of pro-Kannada organisations.

Speaking after meeting Kannada activists in Belagavi, Yathindra said Karnataka Border and Rivers Protection Commission Chairman Justice Nagamohan Das had clarified that there was no legal obstacle to the corporation adopting such a resolution or endorsing the Mahajan Commission report.
Kannada Sanghatanegala Kriya Samiti district president Ashok Chandargi welcomed the move and urged the government to intervene if the corporation failed to act. He argued that the pending Supreme Court border dispute should not be used as a reason to delay the resolution.
The minister also warned L&T to immediately restore roads damaged during the execution of Belagavi’s 24×7 drinking water project, stating that road restoration was part of the contract and strict action would be taken for any delay.
Responding to other issues, Yathindra said Karnataka would consider the Cauvery Water Management Authority’s direction on releasing water to Tamil Nadu. He also reiterated that former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah would not contest the 2028 Assembly elections but would continue to remain active in public life and campaign for the Congress. On the proposed Cabinet expansion, he said discussions with the Congress high command were ongoing and a decision would be taken after consultations.
