Belagavi: Tension prevailed at the Congress office in Belagavi on Tuesday after a meeting to discuss the appointment of the city unit president turned violent, resulting in a clash between party workers.

The meeting was held at the Congress office near Sangolli Rayanna Circle under the leadership of AICC observer Manoj Chavhan, who was collecting opinions from party leaders and workers regarding the selection of the city Congress president.
According to reports, former MLA Ramesh Kudachi voiced his dissatisfaction with the party’s functioning during the discussion. The heated exchange soon escalated into a physical altercation between supporters present at the meeting.
There are also allegations that Hemanth Lengade, a supporter of Ramesh Kudachi, was assaulted during the incident. Lengade is reportedly known for frequently posting critical remarks about Congress leaders on social media.
Following the clash, personnel from the Market Police Station arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control. No official statement has been issued by the party regarding the incident so far.
