Concerned by the rising toll, District In-charge Minister Satish Jarkiholi held a meeting with Forest Department officials and instructed them to implement strict precautionary measures to prevent the suspected infection from spreading to other animals.

The mini zoo originally housed 38 blackbucks, all aged between 4 to 6 years, brought from Binkadakatte Zoo in Gadag and other locations. With only 7 blackbucks now remaining, officials describe the situation as alarming, as several animals had collapsed in a severely weakened state.
Forest officials suspect a bacterial infection as the cause. Organ samples from the blackbucks that died earlier have been sent to Bannerghatta and Mysuru laboratories for detailed testing.
As part of containment measures, the zoo has quarantined other animals, sealed the blackbuck enclosure, and begun spraying disinfectants throughout the premises.
