Massive Turnout Creates Chaos and Overcrowding
Over 30,000 young candidates from Karnataka and other states arrived at the CPD grounds for the recruitment rally. Open to youths from 16 districts, the event drew an overwhelming crowd, with candidates assembling as early as Saturday night to secure their spot. As more people gathered, the crowd grew chaotic, with candidates jostling for space and eventually triggering a stampede.
The stampede injured two youths, Allabhaksha Yaragatti from Hubballi and Praveen Makale from Betageri village in Gokak taluk. Authorities promptly transported the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment. Additionally, the sudden influx of candidates caused heavy congestion on the roads around the recruitment venue, complicating crowd control efforts.
Police Act Swiftly to Control the Situation
As the chaos escalated, police acted to disperse the crowd by waving batons, restoring order amidst the tension. They soon brought the situation under control, allowing the rally to proceed. Recruitment officials conducted height checks by the roadside, while physical fitness tests took place at the National Military School Grounds, ensuring the event’s continuity under safer conditions.
Police and military personnel continue monitoring the event to prevent further incidents. This rally underscores the high demand for army roles and the importance of effective crowd management at large-scale recruitment events.
