Belagavi, April 1: The Belagavi District Cooperative Milk Producers Union (BEMUL), a unit of the Karnataka Milk Federation, has recorded a turnover of ₹510 crore and a profit of ₹12.59 crore for the current financial year. In comparison, the union had posted a turnover of ₹399 crore and a profit of ₹13 crore last year.

Announcing future plans, BEMUL president and MLA Balachandra Jarkiholi said the union intends to establish a mega dairy in Belagavi district. The proposed facility aims to reduce long-distance transportation of milk for processing and enable expansion into value-added dairy products. He noted that the successful operation of the Raibag dairy has encouraged this move.
The union has been focusing on expansion at the grassroots level, adding 100 new milk producer cooperative societies and taking the total to 685. Daily milk procurement has reached an average of 2.5 lakh kg, with a total annual collection of 8.2 crore kg, mostly cow’s milk.
BEMUL has distributed ₹331 crore to milk-supplying farmers and provided around ₹7 crore in assistance under its profit-sharing scheme for equipment such as fodder cutters, rubber mats, and milking machines.
The union has also expanded its market presence by launching 55 franchises across Goa, Pune, and Belagavi. Additionally, it supplies 25,000 litres of milk daily to schoolchildren in Andhra Pradesh under the Akshara Dasoha scheme.
While the State government has released ₹32 crore as incentives to milk producers, about ₹7.5 crore remains pending, which officials say will be cleared soon.
Jarkiholi emphasized the need to boost dairy farming in North Karnataka, highlighting its potential to generate rural employment and provide stable income for farmers.
