Belagavi: Co-operative Department Secretary and District In-charge Secretary Sanjay Shettannavar has directed officials to ensure that claims and objections to the draft electoral rolls prepared under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) are addressed transparently and without lapses.

Chairing a progress review meeting at the Zilla Panchayat meeting hall on Friday, Shettannavar urged political party representatives to thoroughly scrutinise the draft rolls and submit discrepancies or objections with supporting documents by September 23.
The SIR draft electoral roll has 35,93,561 registered voters, including 18,05,685 men, 17,87,715 women and 161 voters from other categories. Around 5,13,439 names have been identified as belonging to persons who are absent, shifted, deceased or fall under other categories.
The facility to file claims and objections has been available since August 24. Notices are being issued to voters whose mapping has not been completed, while enquiries are being conducted at the gram panchayat level.
Crop Loss Survey
The meeting also reviewed crop losses caused by deficient monsoon rainfall across several taluks. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan said officials had inspected the affected areas and were taking steps to release insurance compensation at the earliest.
Crop loss has been reported across 18,430 hectares in 20 gram panchayats, with authorities working to facilitate the release of a portion of the insurance compensation to eligible farmers.
Officials were also directed to ensure adequate drinking water for people and livestock in both urban and rural areas in view of the rainfall deficit.
Several senior district officials, including ZP CEO Rahul Shinde, Police Commissioner Bhushan Borase and other department heads, attended the meeting.
