126 Vehicles Booked in Belagavi Plate Crackdown

Belagavi:
The Belagavi Police Commissionerate has intensified action against vehicles operating without number plates or using illegal fancy number plates, as part of a special drive to enforce traffic discipline in the city.

During a focused inspection conducted on Friday, traffic police booked 126 two-wheeler riders and collected ₹63,000 in fines. The drive was carried out under Section 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, following directions from the Police Commissioner after authorities observed a rise in violations related to number plate norms.

Officials stated that vehicles must display clearly visible, government-approved number plates, as missing or improper plates make identification difficult and may facilitate unlawful activities.

In several cases, violators were asked to correct their number plates on the spot. The Traffic Department has warned that similar surprise inspection drives will continue in the coming days and urged citizens to strictly comply with traffic rules by installing authorised number plates.
