Senior GAIL officials from New Delhi, along with Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) environmental engineers Adil Khan and Praveen Kumar Khilare, inspected the nine-acre site identified for the project. Officials reviewed the site layout, road connectivity, technical feasibility and surrounding environmental conditions.

The proposed plant is part of BCC’s waste management initiative and is aimed at processing the city’s wet waste to generate biogas.

Meanwhile, local residents have intensified their protest against the project. Villagers from Mandoli and Hangarga submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, demanding that the plant should not be set up at the proposed location.

Sources said the initial inspection was satisfactory, but the final decision on the project will be taken after consultations with senior GAIL officials in New Delhi.
