Belagavi City Corporation Commissioner Karthik M. visited the lake on Monday along with engineers from the Public Works Department to inspect the situation. Officials stated that no development work could be carried out earlier because the lake land was under private ownership.
The Godse brothers, owners of the land, have now agreed to transfer the lake area, adjoining road, and nearby passage to the Belagavi City Corporation. Authorities said the process of transfer will be initiated soon.

Following another recent wall collapse near the lake, the civic body sealed three nearby houses and relocated residents as a precautionary measure. Police have also restricted public entry to the area.
According to officials, around ₹3.5 crore will be required for the overall development and safety works at Kapilteerth Lake once the land transfer is completed.
