Belagavi: The Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) approved a ₹10.3 lakh surplus budget for the financial year 2025-26 during a meeting held on Saturday. The total estimated revenue stands at ₹441.9 crore, while the expenditure is ₹441.8 crore.

Key Revenue Sources

The corporation expects a revenue of ₹20 crore from the 16th Finance Commission and aims to generate income through:

  • ₹78 crore from property tax
  • ₹10 crore from building permit development fees
  • ₹1.8 crore from debris removal charges
  • ₹10.5 crore from the sale of vacant corporation land
  • ₹7.1 crore under the SFC open fund grant
  • ₹52 crore from the SFC power grant, which will be directly transferred to the power department
  • ₹17 crore from Hescom for cable installations
  • ₹9.7 crore from solid waste management
  • ₹1.1 crore from property registration authorization fees

Major Expenditures

BCC has allocated funds for various civic projects and services, including:

  • ₹29.3 crore for outsourced cleaning to enhance city cleanliness
  • ₹4 crore for scientific solid waste disposal
  • ₹75 lakh for stray dog management
  • ₹75 lakh for crematorium development
  • ₹1.5 crore for drinking water supply improvements
  • ₹5 crore for new road construction
  • ₹1 crore for CC road construction
  • ₹4 crore for drainage construction
  • ₹1 crore for wetland conservation within BCC limits

Development Initiatives

A total of ₹27 crore has been earmarked for infrastructure development across 58 wards. Other allocations include:

  • ₹3.2 crore for park development
  • ₹20 lakh for a dog shelter
  • ₹40 lakh for two vehicles for transporting deceased individuals

Meeting Highlights

The budget meeting was chaired by Mayor Savita Kamble, with Netravati Vinod Bhagwat, Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Taxation, Finance, and Appeals, presenting the agenda.

Senior corporator Hanumant Kongali emphasized that the budget aims for the all-round development of Belagavi, considering the needs of all citizens.

Corporators Ramesh Sontakki, Girish Nashipudi, Mujamil Doni, Girish Dhongadi, and Ravi Dhotre actively participated in the discussions.

BCC Commissioner Shubha B and other senior officials were also present at the meeting.
