Belagavi: After weeks of water scarcity, Belagavi has received major relief as the Rakaskop Reservoir has filled up following heavy rainfall in the Western Ghats and Maharashtra’s Tilari catchment, significantly increasing inflow into the Markandeya River.

Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) Commissioner Kartik M visited the reservoir on Monday to inspect the water levels. He said the city is currently receiving drinking water from both Rakaskop and Hidkal reservoirs, with a combined supply of 105 million litres per day (MLD).
The improved storage has paved the way for the restoration of the 24×7 water supply in the 10 wards covered under the continuous water supply scheme. During the recent summer water crisis, these areas received water for only two hours once every two to three days.
Water supply has also improved in the remaining 48 wards, where residents who earlier received water once every eight to ten days are now getting supply once every two to three days.
According to the BCC Commissioner, the current storage in Rakaskop and Hidkal reservoirs is expected to meet Belagavi city’s drinking water requirements until May next year, bringing much-needed relief to residents after the severe summer shortage.
