Nadda, Joshi Attend KAHER Convocation in Belagavi

Belagavi, June 3, 2025 – The 15th convocation ceremony of the KLE Academy of Higher Education and Research (KAHER) was held today at the KLE Centenary Convention Centre, located on the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC) campus.

The event welcomed Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda as the chief guest, who delivered an inspiring convocation address. Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi, attending as the guest of honour, added further prestige to the celebration.

Over 1,800 Degrees Awarded Across Disciplines

This year, KAHER conferred 1,844 degrees in diverse health sciences disciplines. Specifically:

  • 40 Ph.D. degrees
  • 29 DM/M.Ch super-specialty degrees
  • 660 postgraduate degrees
  • 1,080 undergraduate degrees

These numbers highlight the university’s consistent growth. Moreover, they showcase its dedication to producing highly qualified healthcare professionals.

Celebrating Academic Excellence

In addition to degree distribution, the university honored academic achievers. Thirty-five students earned a total of 46 gold medals for their outstanding performances.

  • Shweta Rajshekhar Gore (BAMS) secured four gold medals, the highest number at the undergraduate level.
  • Meanwhile, Karumudi Prathyusha (General Medicine) stood out among postgraduates, earning three gold medals.

Notably, these students have demonstrated exceptional commitment and talent, setting benchmarks for their peers.

Honoring Distinguished Medical Leadership

One of the ceremony’s major highlights was the conferral of an honorary Doctor of Science (D.Sc) degree on Dr. Shailesh V. Shrikhande, Deputy Director of Tata Memorial Hospital and a proud KLE JNMC alumnus.

Significantly, Dr. Shrikhande is the first Indian to receive this prestigious honor from KAHER.

Vice-Chancellor Col. M. Dayanand emphasized that, moving forward, KAHER will award honorary doctorates exclusively to academicians, further reinforcing its academic integrity.

Furthermore, Chancellor Prabhakar Kore, who also chairs the KLE Society, praised Dr. Shrikhande’s efforts in helping establish a cancer hospital in Belagavi. As a result, his contributions continue to impact both the institution and the local community.

Overall, the convocation was a proud moment for KAHER, reflecting its dedication to education, research, and service. With strong support from government leaders, alumni, and the broader academic community, KAHER is poised to achieve even greater milestones in the years ahead.
