Indeed, the railways serve as a common transit route for contraband, making continuous surveillance essential to curb inter-state drug movements. Details of the Massive Seizure and Legal Action

Police seized a significant amount of the drug. The total consignment weighed an exact 5.591 kilograms, a substantial haul for a single carrier. Authorities estimated its street value at approximately ₹55,910, highlighting the financial scale of this illegal operation. Furthermore, the successful operation underscores the vigilance of the railway police in combating the drug trade, which often utilizes trains to move narcotics across state lines undetected.

Following the seizure, the Belagavi Railway Police Station registered a formal complaint and initiated legal proceedings. The police filed the case under Crime No. 28/2025, specifically invoking Section 20

of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. This stringent section directly addresses offenses related to the production, possession, sale, purchase, transport, and use of cannabis. Subsequently, the police placed the accused under arrest and transferred him to judicial custody. In addition, further investigation is now underway; authorities are actively working to determine the ultimate source of the Ganja, the receiver in Karnataka, and to dismantle the entire distribution network operating in and around the Belagavi region. Ultimately, this bust represents a crucial step in curtailing the illegal drug supply and protecting local communities from the harmful effects of drug trafficking. The police have appealed to the public to provide any information regarding suspicious activities at the railway station.
