Belagavi:
The second phase of restoration work on the century-old well at Vadgaon has officially begun, bringing relief and satisfaction to local residents. The project is being carried out by Pyaas Foundation, with support from AKP Ferrocast, as part of ongoing efforts toward water conservation and sustainable resource management.
The historic well was originally constructed nearly 100 years ago by the Patwardhan rulers of the former Vadgaon principality. For decades, it served as the lifeline of the area. However, its importance declined after the introduction of piped water supply.
The well regained attention during the severe drought of 2016–17 in Belagavi city, when water scarcity highlighted its value once again. Unfortunately, a structural collapse later caused the well walls to cave in, turning it into a dumping site and putting its heritage status at risk.

At a crucial time, Pyaas Foundation stepped in and, with the assistance of AKP Ferrocast, cleared the debris and initiated restoration efforts. During the cleanup process, live natural springs were discovered inside the well, raising hopes among residents.
Following the revival, the well now consistently retains around 25 feet of water even after daily pumping, demonstrating the success of the initiative.
The second phase of the project will focus on rebuilding the collapsed walls and strengthening the overall structure to ensure long-term stability. Local residents have expressed gratitude and appreciation to Pyaas Foundation and AKP Ferrocast for preserving this historic and vital water source.
