Residents from villages including Turmuri, Bachi, Kallehol, Hindalga, and Uchgaon marched from Sardar Ground to Channamma Circle, raising slogans against the district administration and the state government. The protest later continued with a sit-in outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

Villagers alleged that the solid waste processing unit, which handles around 250 tonnes of waste daily from Belagavi city, is causing severe health problems, foul smell, groundwater contamination, and declining agricultural productivity. The site, spread over 26.7 hectares, has been operational since 2006.

Protest leaders accused authorities of burdening rural communities in the name of urban development, calling it unjust and “anti-democratic.”

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan received a memorandum from the protesters and stated that there is currently no plan to relocate the facility due to significant investment. However, he assured that the issue would be discussed with officials and public representatives to explore possible solutions.
