Belagavi, July 30: The Rakaskop reservoir, the primary source of drinking water for Belagavi city, has reached its full storage capacity following four days of continuous rainfall in Maharashtra’s Tilari catchment area, bringing major relief to residents and civic authorities.

The reservoir, which was around two feet below its full reservoir level until Tuesday, received heavy inflows overnight, allowing it to fill completely on July 29.
Following the rise in water levels, officials have begun testing and carrying out routine maintenance of the reservoir gates. As part of the process, the gates are being raised by one to two inches to ensure they are functioning properly and to facilitate safe water management.
The full reservoir comes as a welcome development after concerns over declining water levels had prompted authorities to regulate the city’s water distribution in recent weeks. With the reservoir now replenished, Belagavi’s drinking water supply is expected to remain secure for the coming months.
The India Meteorological Department has also forecast more rainfall in the region over the next few days, and officials will continue monitoring inflows and reservoir levels.
