Belagavi is known for its grand Ganesh celebrations, and many public Ganesh mandals are preparing larger idols this year. To facilitate their movement, HESCOM has started increasing the height of overhead power lines and installing new electricity poles in areas where required. The work is expected to pick up pace from the first week of August.

The power utility had reduced risks last year by installing Aerial Bunched (AB) cables in several locations. This year, it is also relocating domestic power connections to both sides of roads to improve safety during festival processions.

HESCOM officials said that in some narrow lanes, low-hanging domestic power lines may still pose a challenge for taller idols. Ganesh mandals have been advised to coordinate with HESCOM in advance for temporary power shutdowns during idol installation and immersion processions. Organisers requiring power lines to be raised have also been asked to contact the city HESCOM division at the earliest.

The utility has also appealed to mandals to avoid excessively tall decorative arches and backdrops on Ganesh idols to ensure smooth and safe processions.
