The deceased, identified as Shankar Talavar of Mutyanatti village, had been working at the plant for the past six years. Following news of his death, hundreds of workers staged protests and damaged property inside the facility, alleging harassment, poor working conditions, and unfair treatment by management and labour contractors.

A large police force was deployed to bring the situation under control. Police Commissioner Bhushan Borase and other senior officials visited the spot and initiated an investigation into the incident.

According to reports, Talavar had shared a WhatsApp message before his death, expressing distress over employment-related issues and claiming he had lost ₹5 lakh to a job agent who allegedly promised to regularise his employment. In the message, he also reportedly apologised to his family.

Workers raised several grievances during discussions with police, including a lack of basic amenities and concerns over the behaviour of management and contractors.

Later in the day, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan and MLA Asif Sait met company officials, the victim’s family, and employee representatives to address the situation.

Following the meeting, the district administration announced that the company would provide regular employment to Talavar’s two brothers and offer compensation to the bereaved family. The MLA also extended financial assistance.

The Deputy Commissioner further said officials would prepare a list of unemployed youth from Mutyanatti and nearby villages for potential job opportunities through labour contractors associated with the company.

The Hindalco facility near Belagavi spans over 1,182 acres and includes an alumina plant, an alumina research centre, and a carbon paste unit.
