Belagavi: The city’s air connectivity has suffered another setback with Star Air suspending bookings for its Belagavi–Jaipur and Belagavi–Ahmedabad flights from January 15. This comes days after the airline withdrew its Mumbai–Belagavi service from December 25, raising concerns among frequent flyers and the business community about shrinking regional links.

Stakeholders say the continued loss of flights could impact trade, industry, and regular travellers, especially as Belagavi serves a large industrial belt in North Karnataka and neighbouring regions of Maharashtra and Goa. Business travellers are increasingly forced to use distant airports such as Hubballi, Goa, or Kolhapur, adding to travel time and costs.

The contraction in services is occurring even as the Airports Authority of India undertakes a major ₹265-crore expansion of Sambra Airport, with around 65% of the new terminal construction completed. Trade bodies have sought government intervention, while airport authorities say other airlines have shown interest in operating services and are hopeful the situation will improve soon.
