Belagavi: The Belagavi Cantonment Board has revived a long-pending proposal to transfer three key roads within the cantonment to the Army and has invited objections and suggestions from the public before taking a final decision.

Under the proposal, the Board plans to hand over Albert Ekka Road (Raigad Gate to Jinji Gate), the Smart Road connecting Harsha Enclave to Ramghat Road on Ganeshpur Road, and Queen’s Garden Road (Shastri Park to the Camp area) to Army authorities. In exchange, the Army will transfer the Gymkhana Road stretch from Shaurya Chowk to Gandhi Chowk to the Cantonment Board.
The proposal was first introduced nearly five years ago but was shelved after residents and commuters raised concerns that roads transferred to the Army could face access restrictions, affecting public movement and connectivity.
With the proposal now back on the table, the Cantonment Board has issued a public notice dated July 24, inviting citizens to submit written objections or suggestions within 30 days to the Chief Executive Officer of the Belagavi Cantonment Board.
Civic activists have urged residents to study the proposal carefully and share their views, stating that public feedback will play an important role before the Board takes a final decision on the road exchange.
