The district administration has authorised gram panchayats to arrange tanker water based on local demand. Currently, 14 villages are receiving drinking water through tankers, while more than 65 villages under 45 gram panchayats are likely to face acute shortages if rainfall does not improve.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan warned that the situation could worsen in the coming days without adequate rainfall. Major rivers, including the Krishna, Malaprabha, Ghataprabha, Doodhganga, Vedganga and Hiranyakeshi, have nearly dried up, while reservoirs such as Hidkal, Naviluteerth and Rakaskop have recorded critically low water levels.

According to officials, groundwater levels have also fallen significantly, with water now being found only at depths of 800 to 1,000 feet. In Belagavi city, drinking water is currently being supplied for just one hour every 10 to 15 days.
The administration has identified 148 private borewells for rented water supply, of which 86 are operational. Officials have warned that if the monsoon delay continues, more villages across Belagavi, Raibag, Mudalagi, Chikodi, Hukkeri, Bailhongal, Ramdurg, Athani and Khanapur taluks could face severe drinking water shortages.
