Speaking after a review meeting in Belagavi, Jarkiholi said Maharashtra officials have already indicated their inability to meet Karnataka’s request. He noted that even when the Koyna dam was full, Maharashtra did not release water despite repeated appeals.
The minister, however, assured residents that Belagavi has sufficient drinking water reserves in the Hidkal reservoir to last for the next two months. He clarified that the current water supply issues are due to distribution and infrastructure constraints rather than an actual shortage.

Jarkiholi said tanker services have been arranged in affected areas and gram panchayats have been directed to ensure uninterrupted water supply. He added that normal water supply will be restored once technical issues are resolved.
Dismissing allegations of excess water diversion to industries in Dharwad, the minister said industrial water allocation is strictly regulated and drinking water remains the government’s top priority.
