Tanavade noted that these stretches, vital for daily passenger movement and the transport of essential goods, have become increasingly unsafe due to their narrow pathways and frequent landslides. Recent heavy rains caused a section of Anmod Ghat to collapse, leaving commuters stranded for long hours with no alternative route available in the forested terrain.

He emphasised that Belagavi remains a crucial lifeline for Goa, supplying nearly 80% of the state’s vegetables and fruits, besides serving as a hub for medical, educational, and commercial needs.

With the New Year season approaching, Tanavade urged the government to prioritise repairs, strengthen vulnerable ghat sections, and implement monitoring, warning, and rescue systems. He called for speeding up ongoing work to ensure the highways remain safe and fully motorable throughout the year.
