Belagavi: North Range Police took preventive action against 148 offenders and externed 23 rowdy-sheeters during a month-long crackdown across five districts in July.

The operation covered Belagavi, Vijayapura, Bagalkot, Dharwad and Gadag, with 53 police teams monitoring habitual offenders and taking action to prevent criminal activities.
Vijayapura recorded the highest number of preventive cases at 70, followed by Belagavi with 32, Gadag with 24, Bagalkot with 20 and Dharwad with two.

Police also initiated action under the Goonda Act against six repeat offenders. In a major move against organised crime, the Karnataka Control of Organised Crime Act (KCOCA) was invoked against five accused in a case registered under Harugeri police station limits.
Officials said the intensified drive aims to keep habitual offenders under close watch, curb organised crime and maintain law and order across the North Range.
