Belagavi: Continuous rainfall over the past three days has brought much-needed relief to Belagavi by reviving inflows into the Rakaskop reservoir, one of the city’s primary sources of drinking water. The reservoir’s catchment area has received 349 mm of rainfall so far this monsoon, helping the water level rise steadily.

Officials said the reservoir’s water level is increasing by around 0.2 feet per day. Although the city is still drawing water from the reservoir’s dead storage to meet daily demand, the fresh inflows have eased immediate concerns over the drinking water shortage.
Despite the improvement, Rakaskop remains well below last year’s level, and officials stressed that sustained rainfall in the coming days is essential to refill the reservoir and ensure an adequate water supply for the rest of the year. The recent rains have also reduced pressure on the Hidkal dam, Belagavi’s other major drinking water source.
The Belagavi City Corporation hopes continued monsoon showers will help restore regular water supply across the city after prolonged shortages in several localities.
