Belagavi: Regional Commissioner K. Janaki has directed Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan to personally visit the Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) and submit a report on the recent administrative crisis in the civic body.

The directive came after a delegation of Kannada activists met Janaki and raised concerns over recent developments in the corporation. Janaki assured them that further action would be considered after examining the facts and the deputy commissioner’s report.
The regional commissioner had earlier sought a report from the BCC commissioner on August 17. However, activists alleged that Mayor Preeti Kamkar and Deputy Mayor Hanumant Kongali submitted a report in the absence of BCC Commissioner Kartik M.
They also claimed that only 10 of the 35 ruling-party members were present when the report was submitted.
The Kannada organisations further alleged that the corporation had deliberately failed to disclose the reasons for not passing a resolution declaring Belagavi an integral part of Karnataka.
The activists demanded that the ruling party either pass the resolution or clearly reject their demand. They also urged the government to appoint officials to the BCC who are committed to protecting Karnataka’s interests, the Kannada language and the border region.
A memorandum was submitted to the regional commissioner, with copies sent to Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh and Urban Development Department Secretary Kaveri.
