Belagavi MP Jagadish Shettar met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi to discuss two major railway projects for Belagavi district.

Re-survey for Lokapura-Dharwad Railway Route
Shettar highlighted the need to re-survey the proposed railway route between Lokapura and Dharwad. The initial survey in 2019 failed to identify sufficient traffic demand. However, the Savadatti Sri Renuka Yellamma Devi Temple welcomed over 1.23 crore devotees in 2022-23, showing a significant increase in demand for better connectivity. Many devotees visit the temple from across the country, further stressing the importance of this project.
Shettar urged the Railway Minister to reconsider the project based on current data and ongoing regional development funded by central government grants. The Railway Minister assured him that the re-survey would begin soon.
Extension of Vande Bharat Service to Belagavi
Shettar also proposed extending the Vande Bharat Express service from Dharwad to Belagavi. He explained how slight adjustments to the schedule could make this feasible. The Railway Minister agreed to implement the extension and address the demand promptly.
These discussions aim to improve railway infrastructure in Belagavi district, making travel easier for residents and pilgrims while supporting regional growth.
