Belagavi overbridge project
Belagavi, January 27, 2025: The much-anticipated overbridge project in Belagavi, announced by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, has hit a roadblock due to opposition from local BJP leaders, according to Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi. Speaking to the media on Sunday, Jarkiholi stated that repeated appeals to the Centre have yielded no results.

“If the Centre fails to act, the state government will allocate ₹100 crore annually to complete the ₹300 crore project through state funding,” Jarkiholi assured.
Challenges in Layout Development
The minister highlighted issues in developing new layouts in the city, particularly in Kanabargi, where legal disputes have stalled progress for over a decade. He urged private developers to take up legally approved projects to address the growing demand.
Clarity on Tax Increases
Jarkiholi dismissed allegations of tax hikes, clarifying that only transport fares had increased slightly. “Despite the hike, Karnataka’s bus ticket prices are still lower compared to other states,” he noted.
Addressing Microfinance Harassment
Reports of harassment by microfinance companies in Yamakanmardi, Gokak, and Hukkeri have raised concerns. Jarkiholi urged victims to file complaints with the police, assuring action under the law introduced by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to curb such practices.
