This 65-km stretch runs through Kulagod and Yadawad. Authorities will develop it into a two-lane State Highway at a cost of ₹300 crore.
Unlike other major road projects, this one does not require land acquisition. Instead, engineers will widen shoulders, improve bylanes, and create bypasses around towns to ease traffic.
Moreover, the road plays a vital role in regional trade.
“We buy grains and vegetables from Belagavi and sell them in Bagalkot,” said Basavanneppa Chandaragi, a trader from Ghataprabha.
“We also carry sarees and jowar rotis from Bagalkot to Belagavi. If travel time reduces, our business will grow.”
Currently, the trip from Arabavi to Lokapur takes about two hours. However, the new road could cut this time in half.
In addition to trade, the project will benefit nearby villages. Residents will gain quicker access to hospitals and tourist spots in both districts.
Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi confirmed that the department will begin work shortly. Furthermore, the government aims to complete the project within six months.
