Belagavi to Get 300 New Buses, Including 100 Electric, Says Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy

New infrastructure, stricter transport rules, and improved public services on the way


Belagavi, July 19: Karnataka Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy announced that Belagavi will soon receive 300 new buses, including 100 electric ones. This major upgrade will strengthen public transport and reduce pollution in the region.

Government Launches New Transport Facilities

Reddy made the announcement while inaugurating the newly built Regional Road Transport Office (RTO) and the Joint Commissioner of Road Transport Office in Belagavi. Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi joined him for the event.

The minister said the new fleet would improve city connectivity. He also shared plans to launch a modern city bus stand developed under the Smart City Mission. Both the state and central governments funded the project equally.

₹5 Crore Driving Track Inaugurated

In Bailhongal, Reddy also inaugurated a ₹5 crore ‘Self-propelled Driving Path’. He explained that this facility would modernize driving tests and speed up the licence approval process.

Ministers Call for Stricter Enforcement

Reddy urged officials to fine vehicles that use harsh horns and blinding lights. He also asked the department to stop middlemen from interfering with services at transport offices, as they slow down operations and inconvenience the public.

Jarkiholi Pushes for Tougher Licensing Rules

Satish Jarkiholi emphasized the need to improve road safety. He called for stricter rules when issuing driving licences, pointing to the rising number of road accidents. He also criticized the use of DJ horns by tractors in villages and demanded action.

Plans for More Bus Stops Across District

To improve accessibility, Jarkiholi proposed building more bus stops throughout the district. He confirmed that the Public Works Department will provide the necessary land, and encouraged the transport department to begin construction immediately.

Officials Emphasize Service and Staffing Needs

Minister for Women and Child Development Laxmi Hebbalkar asked transport staff to deliver faster and more transparent services. She also urged them to keep middlemen out of department operations.

MLA Asif (Raju) Sait called on the government to recruit more staff immediately. He said this would reduce the workload on current employees and improve overall efficiency.
