Former Deputy Chief Minister Lakshman Savadi secured a decisive and overwhelming victory from the Athani constituency. This win clearly underscores his continued dominance in the region’s cooperative sector. Mallanna Yadawada won the Ramdurg seat, and Appasaheb Kulagode achieved victory in Raibag.
Political Rivalry and Legal Tussles
The election generated intense and high-stakes rivalry. The competition primarily took place between the panel backed by the Jolle-Jarkiholi factions and the rival Katti-Savadi faction. Indeed, control over the DCC Bank is vital because the institution wields significant financial and political power across the rural economy of the district. Out of 16 total Director seats, nine candidates had already won unopposed before the polls. Therefore, only seven key constituencies remained to be decided by voting.

Though officials completed counting for four other constituencies, they did not officially declare the results. They acted strictly in compliance with a restraining order from the High Court. Nevertheless, supporters of those candidates—including Annasaheb Jolle (Nippani), Ramesh Katti (Hukkeri), Mahantesh Doddagoudar (Bailahongala), and Nanasaheb Patil (Kittur)—celebrated their anticipated victories publicly.
Decisive Vote Counts and Dramatic Scenes
The detailed vote counts revealed the massive scale of some wins. For instance, in Athani, Lakshman Savadi triumphed with 122 votes out of 225. He decisively defeated his competitor, former MLA Mahesh Kumathalli, who only managed 3 votes. The Raibag contest saw Appasaheb Kulagode secure 120 votes from 184 polled, defeating Basagouda Asangi, who received 64 votes. However, Ramdurg proved to be a much tighter race: Mallanna Yadawada won with 19 votes, narrowly edging out S. S. Dhavan, who received 16 votes.
The atmosphere on election day saw unusual and dramatic scenes. The overall voter turnout across the seven contested constituencies averaged an extremely high 96.96%. Moreover, due to the intense politicking, candidates reportedly housed their eligible voters in resorts and hotels. They then transported them directly to the polling centers. Many voters arrived in groups, distinguished by matching attire or identifying wristbands. This detail certainly testifies to the aggressive measures the rival factions took to secure these crucial director seats.
