Hundreds of MES workers and supporters participated in the rally, waving black flags and shouting slogans demanding the merger of Belagavi and nearby border areas with Maharashtra. The group has been observing Black Day every year on November 1, the day Karnataka was formed in 1956, to register their protest against the inclusion of Belagavi in Karnataka.
Police made elaborate security arrangements across Belagavi, deploying additional forces at key junctions and sensitive locations to prevent any law and order issues. The city witnessed peaceful proceedings despite heightened tensions in some areas.
