Man Arrested for Agarbatti Job Scam

Belagavi, Nov 6: Shahapur Police have arrested a man for allegedly cheating several women by offering fake home-based agarbatti packing jobs under the name BM Group Women’s Self-Employment Scheme.

The accused, identified as Babasaheb Laxman Kolikar (35), a resident of Jaloji, Pandharpur, Maharashtra, collected ₹2,500 from each woman, promising to pay ₹3,000 after completing the packing work. However, he failed to pay the promised amount.

Based on a complaint filed by Lakshmi Anand Kamble, a resident of Khade Bazar, Belagavi, the police registered a case (Crime No. 108/2025) under Sections 316(2) and 318(4) of the BNS-2023.

Under the guidance of Police Inspector S.S. Simani, the investigation team arrested the accused on November 4, 2025. The Police Commissioner of Belagavi City commended the efforts of the investigation team, which included PSI Manikanth Pujari, PSI Manjunath Bhajantri, PSI S.N. Basava, and staff members S.M. Gudadaigol, Sridhar Talawar, Ajit Shipure, and Ramesh Akki.

The investigation into the case is currently ongoing.
