Jarkiholi said Belagavi—one of Karnataka’s largest districts with 18 Assembly constituencies, 15 taluks, and 506 gram panchayats—has become difficult to manage effectively. He highlighted that residents from distant places like Telsang, Khanapur, Sankeshwar, and Ramdurg travel long distances to reach Belagavi for official work.

He noted that the demand for smaller districts has existed for nearly 40 years, and four government-appointed commissions have previously recommended the division. The proposal, he said, has support from leaders across party lines.
Jarkiholi urged the State government to announce the formation of Gokak and Chikkodi districts during the upcoming Winter Session at Suvarna Vidhana Soudha.
