The 26-year-old aeronautical engineer, who is also the State Youth Congress general secretary, replaces senior leader Laxman Savadi, who held the position for more than 15 years. Rahul is the son of Minister and Congress leader Satish Jarkiholi.

The nomination comes against the backdrop of long-standing political tensions between the Jarkiholi and Savadi families, which were evident during recent cooperative society elections in Hukkeri, where the two sides backed opposing panels.
Despite the political buzz, MLA Balachandra Jarkiholi dismissed speculation, calling the decision a routine process that occurs every five years. He said the role would give Rahul valuable experience in understanding the workings of cooperative institutions and help strengthen BDCC’s functioning.
