A meeting in this regard was held on Monday (19) at the Belagavi Municipal Corporation under the chairmanship of Mayor Mangesh Pawar. Corporators, civic officials, and office-bearers of the Dalit Sangharsh Samiti were present.

The Municipal Corporation had unanimously approved a resolution in 2016 to install a 100-foot-tall statue of Lord Gautam Buddha in the middle of Killa Lake and a statue of Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj at the junction connecting the national highway near the KLE area. However, the proposal had remained pending for several years, prompting a recent protest by the Dalit Sangharsh Samiti.

During the nearly two-hour-long meeting, detailed discussions were held, after which the civic body clarified that it has no objection to the installation of the Buddha statue. Officials informed that the process of completing the required documentation is currently underway.

Deputy Mayor Vani Joshi, ruling party leader Hanamant Kongali, corporator Ravi Dhotre, and others attended the meeting.
