Speaking to reporters after a meeting with officials at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, the minister said local bodies have been instructed to identify water sources and make arrangements to supply drinking water through tankers to villages if necessary.

He said gram panchayats already have water tankers and will only need to hire tractors or engines if required. “At present there is no shortage of water, but the situation could become serious after April 15,” he said.

Jarkiholi added that sufficient water is available in Hidkal reservoir in Hukkeri taluk and Navilutirtha reservoir in Savadatti taluk to meet drinking water needs.

Referring to the Hippargi barrage, he said 2–3 TMC of water was wasted after the 22nd crest gate broke. Around 1 TMC of water is required to meet the drinking water needs of towns and villages along the Krishna river basin. The government will try to get 1 TMC of water released from Maharashtra into the Krishna river, and a delegation is likely to visit Mumbai soon regarding this issue.

The minister also said he would review the implementation of the Cities 2.0 project in Belagavi city by holding discussions with Smart City officials.

Meanwhile, he urged people to use LPG cylinders carefully, as a shortage of cooking gas has been reported in some parts of the state.

District officials including Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan, Zilla Panchayat CEO Rahul Shinde, City Police Commissioner Bhushan Borase, and Superintendent of Police K. Ramrajan were present at the meeting.
