Belagavi: Authorities have found that ₹9.5 crore under the Gruhalakshmi scheme was credited to the bank accounts of 8,545 deceased beneficiaries in Belagavi district.

Officials have so far recovered ₹3.8 crore from the accounts of more than 4,000 deceased beneficiaries, while efforts are underway to recover the remaining ₹5.6 crore.
Deputy Director of Women and Child Welfare M Chetan Kumar said a special verification drive identified the deceased beneficiaries, following which their names were removed from the scheme’s beneficiary list.
Officials have also met representatives of lead banks and shared details of the accounts involved. A special team has been formed to identify cases involving fake bank accounts.

State Vice-President of the Guarantee Schemes Implementation Authority SR Patil directed officials to take strict action against those responsible for registering deceased persons as beneficiaries and misusing government funds.
Authorities have also been asked to constitute guarantee scheme committees at the gram panchayat level and submit the required details to the authority.
