The cases were registered by the Khadebazar and Tilakwadi police following delays during the city’s extended Ganesh idol immersion procession.

Khadebazar police booked the president and members of the Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal in Kangral Galli for allegedly failing to immerse the idol on the scheduled day. Those named in the case are president Pratik Sharad Patil and members Suhas Narayan Chougule, Rohan Gopal Neelkantha, Baburao Sambhaji Ingle and Mayur Vijay Patil.

A similar case was registered against office-bearers and members of the Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal in Ganachari Galli. The accused include president Gangadhar Shivangowda Patil and members Umesh Manohar Appugol, Raju Talwar, Sudesh Latte and Shubham Chandan Thakur.

Tilakwadi police also registered a case against five office-bearers and members of Shri Ganeshotsav Yuvak Mandal in Maruti Galli, Angol, based on a complaint filed by police constable R B Pattanshetty. Those named are president Deepak Somanache and members Prashant Dakhluche, Yallappa Kammar, Sandeep Khannukar and Yuvraj Somanache.

Another case was registered against office-bearers and members of Shriram Yuvak Mandal in Rajhans Galli, Angol. The accused include president Umesh Balu Kuryalkar and members Anand Chougule, Neeraj Sulgekar, Hemant Jadhav and Omkar Latukar.

Police sources said more cases could be registered in the coming days as authorities examine whether other mandals also violated conditions mentioned in their immersion permits.

The action follows the conclusion of Belagavi’s extended Ganesh idol immersion procession, which witnessed considerable delays this year.

Speaking to The Times of India, DCP (Law and Order) Narayan Baramani said the violations caused inconvenience to citizens and placed an additional burden on the police department.

“Cases are being registered against mandals that remained adamant despite repeated requests from the police department,” Baramani said.

Police said the cases were filed in connection with alleged violations of the conditions imposed while granting permission for the Ganesh festivities and immersion processions.
