In a memorandum submitted to Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Roshan on Thursday, the delegation highlighted the difficulties faced due to restrictions on fuel being issued in loose containers at petrol pumps. They requested that petrol pumps be allowed to provide limited quantities of fuel in cans against valid identity proof, along with clear guidelines to prevent misuse while ensuring access for genuine users.

The delegation, led by trader representative Satish Tendulkar, stated that recurring power cuts—attributed to unseasonal rains and ongoing infrastructure works—have made generators essential for daily operations across sectors. Shops, textile units, factories, hospitals, hotels, cold storage facilities and banks are among those heavily reliant on backup power.

However, the inability to procure petrol in cans has left many establishments unable to run generators, resulting in financial losses, disrupted business transactions, and challenges in maintaining essential services. Hospitals and emergency medical services have also been affected, while small and medium industries report production setbacks.

Calling Belagavi a key trade and industrial hub, the delegation stressed that uninterrupted functioning of businesses and essential services is critical. They urged immediate intervention by the administration to provide relief in the larger public interest.

Several industrialists and business leaders, including Mukesh Khoda, Mukesh Sanghavi, Raju Paliwala, Lalachand Chapru, Nitesh Jain, Vikas Kalaghatagi and Basavaraj Javali, were present during the submission of the memorandum.
