The fresh spell of rain has eased concerns among farmers who feared crops such as jowar, soybean, cotton and maize would suffer due to the prolonged dry weather.

According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), Belagavi received 104 mm of rainfall between June 1 and June 30, against the normal 146 mm, registering a 29% rainfall deficit. Belagavi and Khanapur recorded the highest deficit at 62%, followed by Nippani (39%), Bailhongal (29%), and Kittur and Kagawad (26%).

In the last 24 hours, Khanapur recorded 24 mm of rainfall, followed by Belagavi (7.3 mm), Ramdurg (6.7 mm), Kittur (5 mm) and Hukkeri (4.8 mm).

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall across Belagavi and several north Karnataka districts over the next few days. Winds of 30–40 kmph are also expected in some areas, raising hopes of improved monsoon conditions and better prospects for the kharif crop season.
